dc.description.abstract | The number of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) is increasing worldwide. In this respect, developing a dense and extensive charging infrastructure network is required as soon as possible to deal with the increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs). However, high integration of charging infrastructure into the grid challenges the electrical distribution grid substantially owing to the additional loads. This paper introduces the project “CLEVER (Charging Low Emission Vehicles in Russelsheim) – Electric City”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy. The main objective of this project is to build the necessary charging infrastructure and develop strategies in a mid-sized German town called Russelsheim am Main with 65,000 inhabitants. The second objective is to understand how to optimize the management of this charging infrastructure including two battery storage systems supplied by renewable energy sources. |
